Nothing Wrong with Money, Honey!

(Especially If You Donate It)

This August 11th from 6-9pm, Victory Anine and Lizzie Lombardo will be hosting a group art show in Brooklyn, New York. The show features work from New York City based artists, as well as work from artists residing in Maine and Upstate New York. The show was inspired initially by the two organizers desire to host a collaborative and inclusive art event. As the wheels began spinning, and they were thinking more and more in depth of the current political climate in America, specifically dealing with the ongoing refugee crisis at the American-Mexican border, the organizers thought, "What better way to dedicate this show not only to our many talented peers and friends, who undoubtedly have the privilege of U.S. citizenship, but those who are brave enough to seek a better life for themselves and their children. These folks, and their folks before them, and our folks before us, and so on and so on, which the history and population of the U.S. is inherently dependent on." Our mission to create an open call for work resonated a solid and supportive response, as all participating artists are sensitive to the subject and believe that activism can be found in many forms

This event is an art auction created with the intent of raising funds to support asylum seeking families in need of legal aid and services. It is also an opportunity to provide a platform for local artists to gather, display their work, and bring people together to encourage nuanced community dialogue on the important topic of immigration.

All works that are displayed for sale will be auctioned off in a silent auction. Some works by participating artists who are present at the time of the opening will be highlighted and a live auction will be held. From the sale each piece, 60 percent will be donated to The Florence Project, an organization that, "provides free legal services to men, women, and unaccompanied children detained by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) division of the Department of Homeland Security in Arizona" (firrp.org).
